Helping people living with long-term health conditions take positive steps towards better health, wellbeing and community connection
We’re delighted to announce the launch of Space2B Walking for Wellbeing Hull and East Yorkshire, a brand-new community wellbeing initiative designed specifically for adults living with chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, persistent pain and other long-term health conditions.
The project, funded from October 2026 to September 2027, will provide free, supportive and accessible weekly walking sessions that help people build confidence in movement, improve physical and emotional wellbeing, and reduce social isolation. The programme aims to support up to 80 local adults during its first year.
Why Walking for Wellbeing?
At Space2BHeard, we regularly support people who have made significant progress in counselling and psychotherapy but who often face challenges maintaining physical activity once therapy has ended. Common barriers include fatigue, pain, flare-ups, reduced confidence and fear of overexertion.
Walking for Wellbeing has been developed to bridge this gap.
Unlike traditional fitness programmes, the service is built around:
- Gentle, graded physical activity
- Pacing and fatigue-aware practice
- Rest, choice and flexibility
- Peer support and community connection
- Safe, inclusive and welcoming environments
Participants will be encouraged to move at a pace that feels right for them, with regular rest breaks and supportive facilitation throughout each session.
More Than Just a Walk
Every session will include opportunities for participants to connect with others who understand the realities of living with long-term health conditions. The programme focuses on reducing loneliness, improving confidence and helping people rediscover what they can achieve through manageable, sustainable activity.
As the project develops, participants will also have opportunities to become peer supporters and future volunteer leaders, helping to create a lasting community resource that continues beyond the initial funding period.
