A Message from our Managing Director Laura
In our ‘new normal’ world it seems a good time to check in and update our community on what we have been doing since Covid 19 became such a big part of our daily lives and routines. Like everyone else our initial concerns were, and still are around safety and ensuring our community are protected whilst still offering vital support for wellbeing and mental health to our service users.
We were very proud of how hard the team worked in the early weeks to ensure that our patients and clients were supported in moving from face to face therapy sessions to online and telephone support. This has not been an easy task and we are aware that some of our service users have opted to delay treatment until we can offer something different. We continue to plan for how we will integrate face to face sessions back in to our daily lives and will update on this as soon as we can, ensuring safety is central to what we plan.
In particular I would like to mention two areas of S2BH that have adapted amazingly.
ReMind, our service designed specifically for people living in our community with long term conditions such as fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue now runs regular online Zoom groups supporting users in ways to manage their conditions and wellbeing. Response to this has been fantastic and we are proud to offer this meaningful connection during what is a challenging time particularly for those already living with underlying health conditions.
Then at the end of March we received the exciting news that S2BH would be Hull City Council’s new provider for their Independent Counselling Service. This means that staff within Hull City Council are able to refer themselves to us to receive a package of counselling to support them in whatever it is that they are experiencing. Of course by this time we had reached lockdown, so getting a service of the ground in with these unusual restrictions was a new territory for us and everyone else! However the team at Hull City Council, in particular Helen and Anne Marie have worked with us collaboratively and creatively to ensure we can offer vital support to their teams.
Across the county and in many services – not just mental health – we are seeing a drop in take up as people try to adapt to new life and restrict contact with others.
It is hugely important that our community and those that need support in Hull and the East Riding know that we and our partners at Lets Talk are still offering talking therapy. We expect that people have been managing a lot more stress than we would normally as we adapt and change with the situation, some of us really experiencing some very tough times. It is important to talk, to stay connected and reach out.
