Valued Minds is a low cost Counselling and Psychotherapy Service which is provided by volunteer trainee counsellors and psychotherapists. We are an independent service and are accessible to anyone that has an income* of less than £23,000pa. Our passion is Transactional Analysis psychotherapy, however, our therapists integrate other models of therapy to meet your needs.
We work with a range of mental health presentations and issues including anxiety, depression, OCD, personality disorder, low self esteem, relationship issues, childhood issues and anything in which you are committed to making a personal change.
Our Ethos – We aim to make counselling and psychotherapy more accessible to our communities. By this we mean reduced costs, an open referral process, no geographical boundary and therapy of a duration to suit your needs.
To enable us to do this we use the skills, knowledge and passion of trainee counsellors & psychotherapists that are willing to commit and volunteer their time and skills to provide a valuable and quality counselling and psychotherapy service whilst enhancing their own experience and working towards the successful completion of their chosen qualification.
To access our service you can contact us directly (self referral) or we accept referrals from third parties i.e. NHS Services, charities, agencies, workplace, social services and any other organisation, family or friend (providing you have given consent for the referral).
What to expect – once you have made initial contact with us, a member of our team will contact you for an initial telephone consultation so we can find out a little bit more about each other. If our service is what you are looking for and we can meet your needs then an appointment will be made for you to attend at one of our centres for a more in depth assessment of your needs.
What we need from you – to ensure we comply with the law we must have your consent for initial contact and the collection of your information. We will need proof of any income you are in receipt of i.e. *payslips, bank statements, benefit statements, allowances, pension statements etc. (without this we are unable to proceed with your referral). You must be registered with a GP and be able to provide evidence of your address.
Because we want to make our service as individual as possible to you, we cannot guarantee that we can provide therapy to everyone as this is dependent on your individual needs and us being able to meet them. We also cannot guarantee how many therapy sessions you may be offered as this is dependent on various factors.
