Valued Minds is a low cost counselling and psychotherapy service which is provided by volunteer trainee counsellors and psychotherapists.
An independent service, it is accessible to anyone that has an income* of less than £23,000pa.
We work with a range of mental health presentations and issues including anxiety, depression, OCD, personality disorder, low self-esteem, relationship issues, childhood issues and anything in which you are committed to making a personal change.
Once placed with your trainee therapist, we encourage long term therapy. At Valued Minds we are passionate about long term therapy, and you are entitled to as many sessions as the therapist has available on their placement. This could be from 3-12 months.
Our volunteer trainee therapists offer a range of therapy models and are committed to the therapeutic relationship.
Our Ethos – We aim to make psychotherapy more accessible to our communities. By this we mean reduced costs, an open referral process, no geographical boundary and therapy of a duration to suit your needs.
To enable us to do this –we use the skills, knowledge and passion of student psychotherapists that are willing to commit and volunteer their time and skills to provide a valuable and quality psychotherapy service whilst enhancing their own experience and working towards the successful completion of their chosen qualification.

What to expect – once you have made initial contact with us, a member of our team will contact you and ask you to provide evidence of your income. On receipt of this, an appointment will be made for you to attend a telephone assessment of your needs and eligibility for this service.
What we need from you – to ensure we comply with the law we must have your consent for initial contact and the collection of your information. We will need proof of any income you are in receipt of i.e. *payslips, bank statements, benefit statements, allowances, pension statements, student loan etc. (without this we are unable to proceed with your referral). You must be registered with a GP and be able to provide evidence of your address.
Valued Minds is a chargeable service. The fee is £10 per 50 minute session and this is payable on or before the day of your session. You can pay by card, bank transfer or cash.
Because we want to make our service as individual as possible to you, we cannot guarantee that we can provide therapy to everyone as this is dependent on your individual needs and us being able to meet them. We also cannot guarantee how many therapy sessions you may be offered as this is dependent on various factors.
